Does This Work? Cry Baby Semi-Permanent Mascara

What It Is:  Cry Baby Semi-Permanent Mascara (my specialist charges $50 for upper lashes, $20 for lower lashes or $60 for both, click here for salons)

The Claim:  This semipermanent mascara adds volume, length, color and curl and lasts up to 3 weeks without smudging.

My Results: Who doesn’t want long, thick, gorgeous eyelashes? Well, sadly, THIS girl wasn’t blessed with them at birth (although all three of my brothers were…go figure).  So, several years ago, I decided to take matters into my own hands and got eyelash extensions. I’ve been hooked ever since!

At a recent extension appointment, my lash specialist told me about a new semi-permanent mascara and offered to apply it to my lower lashes.  “Why not?,” I thought, knowing that there was no way I’d be giving up my extensions for just regular mascara.

My specialist curled my lashes, brushed on the mascara just as you would normally apply it, then let the fiber-packed formula harden on my lashes—the whole process was so simple and only took 5 minutes. I could still apply makeup as usual to my lower lids and use my regular, oil-free eye makeup remover to take it off.  As for how it looked? In a word: LOVE! My lashes were long and full and the mascara really was smudge-proof and waterproof and actually lasted between two and three weeks. It was so great to not have that extra step in my morning routine, and as the semi permanent mascara wore off, I applied regular, non-waterproof mascara right on top.

The Downside:  I’ve heard that when both upper and lower lashes are coated with the semipermanent mascara, the lashes tend to hook when you blink. Of course, you can avoid this if you only get the treatment done to your upper or lower lashes.

Rating: I’m still obsessed with my eyelash extensions for my upper lashes, but now I’m a Cry Baby convert for my lower lashes. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
