Curly Qs: Split Ends

How many times does your hairstylist remind you to get your ends trimmed? I know mine tells me all the time, but that can be hard when a girl’s trying to grow out her hair. There are several reasons we get dry, split ends. It’s mainly due to heat damage from your straightening iron or blow dryer and chemical damage from dyeing, but the environment can also play a role. Last week, I met Rod Horton, a Mizani Stylist who told me about another reason our ends become ravaged. Horton said the longest part of our hair—and the oldest since it’s taken years to grow and become your ends—comes in contact with so many objects throughout the day that they add to the damage. Think about them rubbing up against a chair, your coat, scarf, or even a necklace. No wonder my curls always look frizzy at the end of the day. It makes sense. Horton suggests getting regular trims at least every 6 to 8 weeks to maintain healthy hair and remove split ends. I’m going to make an appointment to cut my ends pronto. How often do you really go in for a trim?
