Curly Qs: In-Salon Hydrating Treatment
| 04/15/2009 - 15:07 |
I was given the opportunity to receive a Mizani moisturizing hair treatment at the L’Oreal Institute in NYC. Excitedly, I jumped at the chance to hydrate my parched curls. The new Mizani Moisturefusion Ultra Hydrating System includes four steps meant to nurture brittle strands. It will be available in salons starting this month. Here are a few details about my experience:
First, the stylist separated my dry curls into sections and applied a cleansing oil. It had avocado, almond and rosemary extracts, which help to soak up product build-up from the scalp. The stylist massaged my scalp to make sure the oil was distributed evenly. (I love scalp massages; they feel like heaven!) Then it was time for the Milk Bath shampoo ($14) and Silk Cream conditioner ($18, Mizani-usa.com for retail locations.) Both contain almond milk to hydrate hair; the conditioner is super creamy with coconut oil. Once my curls were clean and conditioned, the final step was the Intense Moisture Concentrate, a concentrated dose of those avocado and almond oils to lock in moisture.
My hair smelled almondy-sweet and felt incredibly soft when I was finished. But my curls were plump and slightly undefined. My solution was to add a bit of my traditional leave-in that night. My hair has never been happier!
