Curly Qs: Detangling
| 03/04/2009 - 10:30 |
Cuéntenme chicas, do you detangle your hair in the shower, or afterwards? The best option for my curls is to detangle them in the shower with lots of conditioner. If I try to detangle afterwards, it takes forever. More hairs break off because it’s drier, and my curls spread out and get frizzy.
I haven’t found a detangler that actually detangles easily, so until then I use conditioner and this process: In the shower, I apply a thick, creamy conditioner. I separate my hair in sections, usually 4, and finger comb first to remove any major knots. Then I use a wide-tooth comb to detangle starting at the ends and working up. This reduces breakage because you’re slowly and gently getting through tangles, and not pulling through them from the top. The more conditioner I have on, the smoother—and faster—the process. Then I rinse and style my hair as usual. This is the only way my curl pattern isn’t disrupted. How do you conquer the knots in your rizos?
