A few months ago, Latina.com reader Jamieg mentioned she was tired of the same old hairstyle. I can relate. Getting new ideas can be the hardest part of changing up your style when you’re in a rut. This is why I like to get inspiration from celebrities. Shakira always sports beautiful edgy hairstyles, model and TV host Camila Alves dons elegant curly updos and Susie Castillo finds simple ways to show off her tight curls. Once you’re inspired, take free reign to experiment with what works for you.
Lately, Paulina Rubio (whose curls always enviously look perfect with no frizz in sight) has been sporting a cool deep side part while on concert and promotional events for her Gran City Pop album. Since I usually part my hair in the middle, I figured I’d channel Paulina’s look for a recent dinner party. To create the look, I applied some Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly Mousse ($4, drugstores) on damp curls to add a little bit of body, but keep locks controlled. It has the nicest violet smell. Then, I created the deep part and diffused my hair. To keep my strands in place to one side, I placed small bobby pins discreetly between curls and added a bejeweled barrette on top. Voila—I had had a new hairstyle for the party and received complements on my rocker-chic look!
