Celeb Style: Get the Hottest Holiday Updos!

Searching for the perfect holiday hairstyle? Try an updo! It shows off your outfit and won’t compete with your jewelry. Plus, showing a little neck is always sexy. It’s the perfect chance to do something special with your hair.

Here are our five favorite celeb styles, along with steps on how to recreate them yourself:

1. Holiday Updos: Eva Mendes

Eva Mendes’s Accessorized Ponytail

Only have a few minutes to do your hair? Transform a simple pony into a party-ready style just by adding a glam headband!

How To: Tease the roots at the crown of your head to create lift, then gently brush hair into a ponytail, tying it at the crown of your head. Now, set a headband just in front of the bump you made. Check out the holiday-ready J.Crew Jeweled Headband ($26.50, jcrew.com).

2. Holiday Updos: Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie’s Braided Bun

Cute little braids add an unexpected element to a low-bun, making your holiday look feel special.

How To: Part your hair in the middle, then clip all but the front two-inches of your hair back to get it out of the way. Divide the hanging hair into four equal sections; braid each one. Now unclip your hair and pull all of it back. Twist into a messy bun and secure with bobby pins.

3. Holiday Updos: Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez’s Unstructured Updo

If you never wear your hair up (or worry about your ears sticking out), then this is the updo for you. The hair pulled over your ears and the pieces left loose around your face will make you feel less exposed, and create a slimming effect.

How To: Let your hair dry into its natural texture (use a cream like John Frieda's Frizz Ease Weather Proofing Sealant Crème, $6, drugstore.com to prevent frizz), then loosely pull hair back into a low bun, making sure it covers your ears and allowing shorter pieces at the front of your face to fall out. Now use a 1-inch curling iron to re-curl and smooth the loose pieces framing your face.

4. Holiday Updos: Adrienne Bailon

Adrienne Bailon’s Sleek Bun

A black tie party calls for a polished hairstyle, like this slick chignon.

How-To: Use a paddle brush to brush the hair back tightly into a high ponytail. Now, wrap the hair around the elastic, pinning the end of the tail underneath the bun with a bobby pin. For that high-shine finish, spritz hair with a shine spray, like Tigi S-Factor Shiny Happy People, $22, folica.com. Be sure to hold the nozzle at arm’s-length as you spray so you don’t over do it, or your hair will look greasy and feel crisp.

5. Holiday Updos: Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria’s Swept Up Pouf

Add height—and glamour—with this sexy, mussed version of the trendy bump.

How-To: Distribute mousse (like Pantene Fine Hair or Medium-Thick Mousse, $4 each, pgestore.com) throughout damp hair, then rough-dry. Flip your head upside down while you dry to get some lift at the roots. Once dry, use a paddle brush to tease the roots on the crown of your head. Brush all but the top layer of your hair tightly back into a ponytail and wrap into a bun. Now pin the top layer back towards the bun in sections, keeping the hair lifted high. Be sure to use hairspray (L’Oreal Elnett, $12,49, target.com) to keep all the pieces in place.
