Does This Really Work: Exfoliating Shampoo

My scalp can feel itchy during cold weather months, and considering we’re still having breezy temperatures in NYC, I decided to try an exfoliating shampoo to treat the area. I used Davines Awakening Oxygenating Scrub Shampoo ($23), a shampoo with tiny jojoba beads to help remove dead skin cells that lead to buildup. When you first pour some on your hand it’s a light green creamy liquid with small pebbles that you would think is a facial scrub instead of a shampoo.

Curly Qs: Split Ends

How many times does your hairstylist remind you to get your ends trimmed? I know mine tells me all the time, but that can be hard when a girl’s trying to grow out her hair. There are several reasons we get dry, split ends. It’s mainly due to heat damage from your straightening iron or blow dryer and chemical damage from dyeing, but the environment can also play a role. Last week, I met Rod Horton, a Mizani Stylist who told me about another reason our ends become ravaged.

Does your boy ever complain about your lipstick transferring onto his lips when you kiss? I know mine does. This led me to try Sealed With a Kiss ($4) from Sally Beauty Supply. It’s a roll-on lipstick sealer that prevents your lipstick from smudging, bleeding, or sticking to anyone you choose to smooch.

Curly Qs: Hair Loss Scare

Do you ever get scared of how much hair you lose daily or when you detangle? I always cringe when I see fallen curls on my clothes and the load of hair left on my comb after I untangle. I’ve asked several hairstylists what gives and luckily, they’ve all agreed on the reason. It’s common for those who don’t brush their hair daily (like most of us girls with curly hair) to notice more hair on clothes, the floor of your bathroom and everywhere else but the hair brush.
