American Idol’s ratings success this season may not necessarily repeat itself next season, if judge Jennifer Lopez decides not to renew her one-year contract with the hit show. However, while the 41-year-old boricua said Wednesday that “It’s too early to tell” if she’ll return, her fellow judge Randy Jackson is sure she will.
“We’ll all be back next year, we'll all be back!” Jackson said on Lopez Tonight last night.
Lopez, who earned $12 million for her judging gig, is currently in contract negotiations with FOX. But, she may want to focus on her music career if her recently released album, Love? is a huge success. And who can blame her? Her hit song, "On The Floor" held the #1 spot on iTunes in 18 different countries!
FOX chief executive Peter Rice said this season proved American Idol could continue without former judge Simon Cowell.
“Ultimately, we needed credibility in the judges. We needed them to want to be there and to be entertaining,” he said. “We needed chemistry among them, and I think they gave us that in spades. It’s been a fantastic season.”
We agree that Lopez brought a great energy to the show, and we are not surprised executives understand her influence on the show.
“We loved having her -- the hope and expectation is she'll return," Rice added.
Until negotiations are finalized, we are crossing our fingers that she will return to her judging role!
