We’ve long been contemplating Jennifer Lopez’s look for the MTV Video Music Awards last month. Was her short bare-shoulder dress edgy and modern, or mishmashed and messy? One thing was for sure: We were totally digging her sleek ponytail-braid hybrid, created by her mane man Ken Paves.
Capitalizing on one of the strongest trends in hair right now—big texture—hairstylist Paves decided to go with a “modern, yet retro take on the ponytail.” He further explains how he did it: “I pulled the hair together … and created a long braid. I braided it all the way to the bottom, smoothing hair with my Ken Paves Healthy Hair Shine Serum ($30, ulta stores). Before Lopez left, I added an elastic four inches down from the top of the ponytail base to hold the braid, and then unbraided the rest of a great textured look.” Sounds fairly simple, chicas. Tell us: Will you try this 'do at home?
