9 Celebrities Who Have All Battled Acne

Acne sucks. Zits, pimples, whiteheads — not to mention the scarring — can leave you wanting to hide your face and never show yourself in public again. But, we all deal with it. Yes, even celebrities. Take a look at some of the stars who have all dealt with bumps in the road (pun intended).

1. Stephanie Beatriz

Our “On My Radar” blogger devoted an entire blog to her struggle with acne — and girl keeps it real. “I’ve had cystic zits with not one, not two, but THREE HEADS. I AM NOT KIDDING. I remember sobbing as I looked at in the mirror, desperately attempting to cover the redness with concealer. The thing about cysts though, is that you can change the color but not the texture. There is no hiding that big eruption and it EFFING SUCKS.”

Through some products and healthy choices (H2O, everyone!), Stephanie has gotten it under control. But she still works to keep it under control – and that’s okay! “When I looked in the mirror… I made myself so small and worthless that I was just the pimple. Don’t do that to yourself, guys. Go stand in front of that mirror and remember that YOU ARE AWESOME.”

2. Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz revealed in her new body book that she definitely struggled in her teens and twenties with acne. “I mean, I had terrible, terrible, skin,” she reveals. “It was embarrassing, and I did everything I could think of to make it go away. I tried to cover it with makeup. I tried to get rid of it with medication: oral, topical, even the harshest prescriptions. Nothing helped for very long.”

“It was really challenging to cover them up for the cameras,” she wrote. “It was awkward and embarrassing and frustrating, and I always felt really bad about myself.” But once Diaz changed her diet, her acne went away. “Looking back, I realize that I hadn’t needed those prescription drugs, those vials of potions and creams. I hadn’t needed to be angry at my skin or feel bad about myself. I had just needed to LISTEN TO MY BODY. … acne was my body’s alarm system, it was my of telling me [to stop eating fast food].”

3. Naya Rivera

The actress dealt with acne as an adult — until she used Proactiv. (She’s now one of their celebrity spokespeople.) "It sort of just came out of nowhere,” she told People. “It was like adult acne, and I was like, I've had great skin my entire life. How am I dealing with this now at 24?" By using the cleansing line, she was able to get it under control after a couple of months. "It's a process, but it does get better."

4. Jessica Alba

Alba dealt with acne as a symptom of pregnancy, so she worked to combat her zit-prone skin. “I eliminated retinol & exfoliated a little more because I was more acne prone,” she tweeted while chatting with WhattoExpect.com.

5. Salma Hayek

Hayek talked to Lucky about her problem skin that surfaced when she was 25, “You want to talk about bad skin? I had acne. And this acne was so bad it sent me into severe, severe depression. Like I couldn't leave the house. The next stage with that sort of depression is food - too little or too much. Guess what I did?... I was fat and broken out. I couldn't leave the house and I couldn't pay the rent!"

But it was her friend, director Alfonso Cuarón who helped her bounce back. “He came to the house. He did not play it down, he did not try to say, ‘Oh you look fine. He said you can’t do this to yourself and taught me to meditate, relax. I got myself back together!”

The other solution? Accutane. I didn’t want to, but it cured it. Since then my skin’s forever sensitive and dry.” Now the celebrity takes care of her skin by using the gentle ingredients her grandmother always used (and putting them in her Nuance beauty line for CVS.) “She knew what she was doing—she died at 96, with no wrinkles!”

6. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato has great skin, but even the diva deals with a zit or two — even in weird places! The songstress tweeted about having a shaved head: "Why couldn't my pimple be on the side of my head that has hair...?!!"

7. Bella Thorne

The teenager deals with problems like every other teen – including acne. She told TWIST, "When I see a pimple on my face I say 'ughhh I hate this, I must cover this, I must pop it. It's not going to look good, you're going to see it!' But you can't stress, it will make your skin worse," she explained. "If you're stressing about what you look like, no doubt you will get more acne. You just have to take care of it in the best way possible. You have to stay in a routine, your skin needs a routine everyday to get used to."

8. Camila Cabello

Cabello of Fifth Harmony has her fair share of acne ordeals, but she realized her diet was doing her no favors. "It was terrible," she told TWIST. "I would wake up in the morning and be scared to look in the mirror. It was the worst thing ever." In order to clear up her skin, Camila started eating better and cut out the foods that were making her break out. "That helped me out a lot," she said. "I didn’t realize how much having bad skin plays into your self confidence until I went through it. It sucked."

9. Selena Gomez

Yes, even Gomez deals with acne flair-ups, but she takes it in stride: “I wear a hat, and if I have a pimple, I let it be," she said. "I’m like, ‘Yeah, look, I got a pimple. So?’ Everybody does."
