The other night I was rushing to put an outfit together and couldn’t decide what to do with my hair. Finally, I ended up pulling it back in a sleek bun and finished my look with some red lipstick. I got tons of compliments on how great my hair color was and how it took my sassy style to another level and then it hit me! Style isn't only about your wardrobe, it's based on your total look, from head to toe. It’s just as much about your shoes and accessories as it is your personality and hair color.
I recently did a swimsuit spread with Vibe magazine and it totally got me in summer beach mode! Lately, I’ve been obsessed with swimwear and more importantly, cover-ups and swimwear accessories since you can find them all so cheap.
As you know, I love color, so that was a must for the swimwear shoot. Being sexy is also my thing, so if I’m not wearing a bikini, I’ll opt for a monokini as my one-piece.
Growing up, did you girls own a pair of what we call "Jelly" chancletas? I did, and mine were purple!
Every summer, some designers put out at least one model of jelly shoes in their collection. This summer it's the cats meow, and now they come with designs and embellishments on them! I just bought myself a beautiful pair of clear Stuart Weitzman jelly sandals with Swarovski crystals on them and a bow tie. I feel just like Cinderella! My friend went for the Juicy Couture ones—they have them in flip-flops—some even come with an actual high heel.
Last weekend I was in Utah for gay pride and as I was having lunch with friends I noticed a pretty little girl sitting with her family wearing a very cute pink floppy hat paired with a little white purse, a white dress, shoes and shades, and then it hit me! Style doesn't have an age limit, you can start at any age and it can go on forever! Seeing this little girl made me want to talk about big floppy hats as a fashionable accessory.
All my bold, risky fashionistas: it's time to bust out your flower garments. Not the ones with small flowers, I'm referring to the really big roses, gardenias, jasmines, etc.
You can do a colorful flower-print vest with a fun white tee underneath and skinny black jeans with a black or colorful stiletto. I’d pick a color to match the print on the vest.
I love everything denim because it's always in style. Since we always end up having denim accessories and staples in our closets that can go for months without being worn, why not put them to use? Denim adds a funky edgy touch to your wardrobe. You can mix it up with other fabrics or wear all denim and you'll still look hot.
I chose the following four looks to give you a few ideas of how to denim it up with pieces you already own!
One of the trends for Spring 2011 is a Nautical theme. There are many ways to rock this trend - you can wear striped dresses, skirts or loose shorts with sailor or navy school boy blazers and even play around with neutral and bright colors. Whatever colors you choose, the key is to keep with a Nautical theme and as long as you accomplish that, you'll be styling! Whether your style is sporty, sexy, or punk, anyone can pull this look off. If you want some inspiration check out the pics below of me wearing three different nautical looks without going overboard—no pun intended!
The video for my new single "Dancing Tonight" premiered last week and I couldn't be more excited! In fact, I'm so excited that I wanted to tell you a little about the direction I was going for with the looks in the video and hopefully give you some fashion inspiration to use in your everyday life. When doing a music video, everything (especially wardrobe) is planned ahead of time.
