Amanda Flores Beauty Director
Amanda Flores is the beauty director at Latina. As a self-proclaimed beauty junkie, there isn’t a product that comes into her office that she doesn’t road test. Her love of everything beauty started at a young age when her mother started selling Mary Kay cosmetics and Amanda couldn’t resist breaking into the pink boxes to swipe on the latest shade of lipstick or shadow.
Before starting at Latina, Amanda worked in the beauty departments at Family Circle, Woman’s World and—the place where her love of beauty journalism began — Redbook, where she worked as an intern while studying at NYU.

The Latino celeb I'd want to be best friends with: Salma Hayek, a humanitarian, businesswoman and a true beauty.
My first celebrity crush: Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing. Could he be more adorable??
My Latina Role Model: Sonya Sotomayor — proving to young girls everywhere that no dream is too big and all things are possible.
Fun Memory from My First Day at Latina: I had a wardrobe malfunction on my way to the office — I guess I hulked out and a button popped off the back of my shirt — so I had to wear a safety pin to hold it together for the rest of the day. Oops.
If I met Jennifer Lopez, I would: ask her to teach me some of her killer dance moves
Movie that makes me cry: Up (Pixar) gets me from the first scene every time.
Favorite Interview with a Latino Celeb: Shakira on her love of creating fragrances that make women feel sexy.
Favorite Latin dish: Sancocho

Imagine waking up with lashes that looked as if you’d already applied mascara? Except, there’d be no flaking, no running and, best of all, no precious time wasted on removal before bed? Well, for you lash-obsessed chicas, we’ve found the solution. The eyelash extension trend that started up about ten years ago is now everywhere you turn, from celebrities to brides to anyone in between. But, like most beauty treatments, it’s best to have all the information before experimenting so we went to a pro for the full scoop.
As beauty editor, I have the fun task of keeping Latina’s beauty content up-to-date so that you, our audience, can stay on top of the latest and greatest in the beauty industry. That means interviewing experts, attending events and—best of all!—playing with beauty products. A tough job, I know, but as they say, someone’s gotta do it. Here’s a glimpse into some of what makes up my day.
With more and more of our favorite celebrities being named the face of beauty brands, including Zoe Saldana for L’Oréal and Lupita Nyong’o for Lancôme, more attention is being given to the makeup lines behind those faces. Do they really work with our diverse range of skin tones? Turns out, many do! Click through to see which lines have the perfect shade for your complexion.
No matter how hard we try, some of us just can’t seem to grow our nails past the tip of our fingers. Pretty frustrating with the way nail art has blown up. A detailed portrait of President Obama’s face? On these nails? No way! But not to worry. There are some designs that look great on all lengths and we’ve found them. Click through for seven perfect-for-spring nail art manis that work beautifully no matter how long, er, short, your nails are!
As a beauty editor, I get to preview a lot of new beauty launches. The evidence is piled up around my desk. So, when a product lands on my desk that makes me literally say out loud to my officemates (or whoever’s listening), ‘why hasn’t this existed until now?’, you know it’s good.
It seems like every day there’s something new and groundbreaking when it comes to your skincare products. And the latest doesn’t disappoint: charcoal! What’s so great about it? It opens up pores and helps get rid of excess oils (read: good-bye acne!). Don’t worry. You don’t need to give yourself a facial at your next barbecue; the beauty world has done the work for you by bottling it up and adding it to their products. Here are three to try.
Do you have thick (read: bush) eyebrows? With that much brow real estate, you can only trust an aesthetician trained in the art of brow grooming -- and yes, it is an art. Luckily, just as nail salons specialize in manis, there are now boutiques that focus entirely on brows.
