Celia lost her tragic battle with cancer and passed away at the age of 77. Her funeral transcended political barriers between Cuba and the U.S. and she was mourned by countless of fans that attended her public service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NYC. Up until her final day, Celia honored her Cuban roots and requested for soil from Guantanamo to be included in her burial ceremony. Her mausoleum sits alongside her late husband Pedro in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.
